NOTES. Colonel Soult continues to do well on the tracks at Ellcrslio. Acceptances for all events, at the Bracken-field Hunt Club's Meeting close this evening. It is reported that Sir Agnes, who won two r-.ices at Trmitham, and looked a very likely proposition for the Winter Cup, is a very doubtful starter. Waimai is reported to bo doing: all that is required of him in the most satisfactory way in the North, and is regarded as a sure starter, for Grand National honours next month at Riccarton. Tho enquiry into the alleged inconistcnt running of Kooya on the first two days of the recent Wellington Itacing Club's Electing was concluded on Wednesday. After hearing tho evidence of the persons concerned, it was decided not to take any action.

A Wellington writer states that Quarantine, who did a season at tho stud at Dannevirke, was returned to his breeder, Sir Geo. Clifford, last week. Jt is not decided where ho will stand next season.

The two hunters nominated for the South Canterbury Steeplechase, on Thursday, who also figure as candidates for the Grand National Steeplechase, wore The Brewer and Oratonu, but both declined their engagement. Knupokonui was the only Grand National aspirant that meed this week, when ho Tan seeoud in the Hunters' Hurdles, and third in the Hunt.-rs' Plate. His form was net very eneouragin«r. AVellwoorl was the most successful horse at tlie Tiniaru Meeting, winning the Tally-lin .Steeplechase and Hunt Club Cup. but lie is not a candidate for Grand National honours. Ikowai. winner of the South Canterbury Steeplechase, is a useful sort of hunter, and may be seen to better advantage later. These two will probably figure among the general entries for the C.J.C. Grand National Meetinz. which close next Friday. Both stood out rather in the class they met at Timaru, and -while being fairly good jumpers they pave some promise of possessing the ahflrty to see out a lengthy course.
