OBITUARY.

MR WILLIAM GLYNAN

Mam- Peninsula residents will regret, to bear of the death of Mr William Glynan ; of Akaroa (writes our corregpondent). Ho succumbed to a severo attack of pleurisy that had laid him aside for only a few days. The late Mr Glynan was born in Akaroa in 1861. " He was the eldest surviving son of an old settler, who arrived in New Zealand twenty years before that, date. He had spent practically all his life here engaged in farming pursuits at the Kaik. The esteem in which he was held as a neighbour and as a friend was shown by the very large number of men who attended his funeral on Thursdav afternoon. He was buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery, Akaroa, fne Rev. J. W. Hayward conducting the service at the graveside. He leaves a widow to mourn nor loss.

The death has occurred at Dunedin of Mr Edwin Herbert, one of the bestknown and oldest employees in the service of the Bank of New South Wales. In his youth tho late Mr Herbert was engaged in financial journalism in London. He entered the bank's service in 1878, and at various times has managed the Greymouth, Hawera, Geraldine. Bnll6. and Marten branches. He was. appointed to the Marten branch in 1912, and remained there up till within a short time of his death. Deceased, who was aged sixty years, leaves two sons, Mr H. W. Herbert, of the Sydney office of the Bank of New South Wales, and Mr C V. Herbert, of the Fijian branch.

Mr Charles Cecil Maguire, son of Mrs Allan Maguire and the late Mr Allan Maguire. of Wellington, died on Wednesdav. Ho was born in Auckland 33 years ago, and was educated at Mount Cook School and Wellington College. On comrjleting his education he joined his father, who was a large contractor and was connected with the construction of the Kilbirnie tunnel and the erection of the Grand Hotel and Victoria College, Wellington. Three years ago he was married to Miss Weir, of Christchurch. He has left no children. His only Dr. Maguire, is on active service m France, and his onlv sister is the. wife of Mr Len. McKenzie, a member of the Wellington City Council.
