CASUALTIES.
A painful accident happened at the Addirigton Workshops yesterday to an emploveo named J'. Ward, who iuid left forearm so badly burned that lie had to be taken to the hospital. He was attended to in the. out-patients department, and was then able to proceed to his home.

A man, whoso namcf is not known, was drowned under peculiar circumstances to-night us the J?arawera was leaving for Napier. r l'hc ship's how was just moving when a man on the wharf rushed forward, apparently anxious to get on board. Someone on the forecastle head lowered a line, the man caught it. and was hauled up some distance; then he lot go. The third officer, Mr Isbister, jumped into the ■water, but tho man had disappeared before the officer reached him.
