THE CATHEDRAL SERVICES.
TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PBESS." Sir, —I desire through your columns to give expression to my appreciation of my privilege in being able to attend the services in the Cathedral during the recent session of the General Synod in Christchurch. To a visitor from a Northern diocese, where we have nothing to compare with Christchurch Cathedral, that noble building and its services were a very great delight, reminding one of the venerable shrines of the Old Land. I have had more than a superficial acquaintance with , some of the great English cathedrals, ! and what impressed me about the ser- i vices in your beautiful Cathedral was that not only was the singing quite ; up to the English cathedral standard, ' but that the men and boys really entered into the spirit of what they were doing. Evidently the organist and choirmaster "of your great central church is interested in something very much more important than the mere music of the services. To one member of the Synod, at least, the worship in Christchurcli Cathedral will remain an inspiration for years to come. It was astonishing to me to find that so few people availed themselves of the daily sung evensong at 5.15, on their way home from work.—Yours, etc., A NORTHERN ARCHDEACON.
