MUTUAL AID SOCIETY. The seventeenth annual general meeting of the Victoria House (V/. Strange and Co., Ltd.) Mutual Aid Society was held in the company's warehouse on Wednesday evoning, i the president, Mr G. Hope, presiding. The balance-sheet, which was passed, show** ed that the Society was in an excellent financial position. Members' contributions for the year amounted to £100 14s Od, to which the firm added their usual grant of a like sum, bringing the receipts, with interest on deposit, to £218 4s 4d. During the year s)8 cases received assistance, and the total sum paid out as aid to members was £154 10s. A balance of £129 7s 4d remained on deposit, of which thesum of £100 was set aside to assist any members of the staff who might return from tho war wounded and 'disabled. Twelve members were now at the front. Three members—Messrs Arrowemith, Blatherxrick, and Warwood—had given their lives in the service of the Empire. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the management of W. Strango and Co., Ltd., for its generous action in subsidising the members' subscriptions, and thus enabling the committee to give more liberal aid to members in sickness and distress. The following officials were elected for the coming year:—Patrons, Messrs W. S. Strango and H. H. Smith; president, Mr 6. Hope; vice-preeidents, Messrs H. Y. Free and S. Swanson; hon. auditor, Mr E. H. Wyles; finance committee, Misses Wilcox and Matthews, and Messrs Jarman. Martin, and J. A. Clarke; secretary and treasurer. Miss G A. King. Votes of thanks were passed to the auditor, Mr E. H. Wyles, and to the secretary, Miss G. A. King, for, their services during the past year. EMPLOYEES' PATRIOTIC FUND. A meeting of the subscribers to W. Strange and Co., Ltd-'s Employees' Patriotic Fund was also held on Wednesday evening, Mr H. V. Free presiding. Tho secretary read the annual report and balanoe-sheet. which showed that subscriptions for the year amounted to £496 18s lid. Of this sum £300 was given to the support of No. 8 Queen in the recent Queen Carnival, and £140 to tho Red Cross and other patriotic funds. Altogether over £600 had been subscribed'for the'various funds by the employees during the last fourteen months, and contributions to the fund arc still being continued. The report was adopted, and further business wo 3 deferred" till a later meeting.
