WATER SUPPLY BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The last ordinary meeting of the Wai-makarlri-Ashlcy Water Supply Board was attended by Messrs Dixon (chairman), Ryan, Moderate, and Way land. An apology wa6 received from Mr Cooper owing to illness. The secretary wis requested to convey to him an expression of the Board's sympathy. The surveyor's report, which was approved, stated that during tho pre-vioue five weeks the daily average depth of water on eill of intake at Brown's Kock iieadworka had teen 4ft lin, and duriDg the same period the daily average depth of water passing tho flume at Block cutting had been 2K 3in, giving an ample auppjy to the whole district. One heavy fresh occurred in the river, rising to 6ft lOin on tho gatee, but no damage was done to protective bolsters or tlw race and the river remained in a favourable position. The pr.ncioal bytvush of tho three to be placed in the head race below 'Burnt Hill had been successfully placed in position, and tha matter cf removing silt obstructions would be put in haxd as soon as po3sible. . The remaining two bj-a-ashes would bet finished during next period. Several more ford crossing* had been made and culverts placed in various parts of the district. Tho bad portion of the Cust township raco had been constructed wholly of concrete for a length of 200 feet. The Water Supply district was in good order, excepting for the necessity of cleaning races. The Beard decided that the rangers should arrange for various races in their districts to be cleaned from time to time (tho secretary to provide a circular to ratepayers or. the subject) eo a B to allow the general cleaning time to be devoted to th-s doing of the Board's portion and other necessary works. Mr Moderate and the surveyor reported on the proposed bridge over tho main race as asked for by Mr Graham. Tho Board decided that Mr Graham must pay for the bridge, which the Boanl would placo in position, and which must be only 6 feet wide and for dock purposes only. It was agreed to pipe 21 feet of race on Mr Lang's property, he to cart the necessary materials and help in the work. A request from Mr G. Cowers. jnnr., for a concrete culvert instead of a ford on the Board's bywash on his property was agreed to on condition that the bywash be constituted a water Tace, put on the Board's form and signed by Mr Co wens, and the Board t>e relieved from all liability ae to flood water. A request for tho purchase of eome old sheet et-eel was refused. The Board's balance-sheet for the year enddd March 31st, 191G, certified correct, wae received from the Controller and AuditorGeneral.
