It ia understood that negotiations arc in urogreas for the purchase of tho "well-known auxiliary scow Eunice for use as a lighter at Wanganui. Tho vessel arrived at Lyttclton yesterday morning from Kaipara, and p.fter discharging her cargo of timber will be placed on the patent si in for .sighting, probably on Saturday. Tho Eunice is a stoutlybuilt vessel of 187 tons gTO6s register, and was built in the North oi Auckland about 13 years ago. Prior to making Lyttelton her lioiiio port, she was engaged in carrying timber between Havelock and Australia, returning with a cargo of coal from Newcastle to Wanganui. Some time ago tho Eunice was fitted at Auckland with two 60 li.p eemi-Diesel oil engines. It is understood that the negotiations are being carried out by Messrs A. H. Tumbull and Co. on behnlf of the Christchurch Meat Co., for whom the schooner Morning Light was recently purchased.
