SERIOUS MOTOR-CAR ACCIDENT.

WELLINGTON RESIDENTS INJURED. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, Juno 5. A serious motor-car accidcnt occurred? this evening to a party who woro returning from tho Otaki races. Mr PJ. Griffin, licensee of tho Gresham Hotel, Wellington, was driving Cadillac car, in which were also Messrs*, D. Palmer, P. McLaughlin (of Mel-' bourne), E. M. Hickey and R. H. Skipwith (who liad heen acting as starter at tho races). All went well' till To Horo was reachcd, when, just asthe car -was crossing an embankment, the steering gear broke, and tho car swerved and went over the bank. Help v.-as soon at hand with, tho arrival oi other motoring parties returning from the raccs, and the work of renderingaid to tho occupants of tho wrcckcd car proceeded expeditiously. It. was found that three of the men had fared badly. They were:—Griffin, broken arm and injury to the chest; Palmer, broken collar-bone and cuts; Hickey, badly cut about the head, but. not believed io bo seriously injured.
