LICENSING COMMITTEES.

CrnjISTCHTTRCH. The annual sitting of the Christcliurch Licensing Committee was held yesterday at the Magistrate's Court. Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., presided, with him being Messrs C. E. Salter, K. Matheson, and T. C. Field. An apology for absence was received from Mr J. E. Pethcrick. /

Renewals were granted to William H. Robins, Canterbury Hotel, Methven; itobt. F. Marsliall. Railway Hotel, Rakaia; John J. Coffey, Springfield Hotel, Springfield; Timothy Twomey, Methven; Harry Taylor, Rakaia; Arthur J. Johnstone, Sheffield; John Richardson. Bluff, Coalgate; Thos. W. Price, Hororata; Jas. W. Halliday, Chertsey. Senior-Sergeant Ryan reported most favourable on the conduct of all the hotels in the Selwyn licensing district, and the whole proceedings wore conducted well inside of ten minutes. It w?s decrided to endorse the remit from the Otaki Licensing Committee recommending that legislation be passed providing that where one district has more than the required number of hotels, provision be made to remove a license to another district.
