For tho purpose of being cleaned and painted the ferry steamer' Maori went into the Lytlciton dry dock on Saturday morning. Sho came out in tho afternoon, and left for Wellington in tho evening. Having completed tho discharge of the local portion of lier cargo of salt, the ship Celtic Glen was towed out through the molwi at 7.45 on Saturday morning. Favoured with a strong aou'-wester, she set sail near Camp Bay and put to sea, travelling as fast as a steamer. A start has been made wit-h the building of the Pipitea wharf (says Saturday's Wellin"tcn "Post"). i"or thifi work tenders were being oa.lled when the war broke out, and it was suspended. However, there, are already ninety piles of reinforced cmcretc made for the work, and fifty of tVee aro ready for driving. The first was driven a day or two back without fuss or ceremony of any kind, th" not being suitable for jubilations of this kind. The wharf will be 94Sft lon* on ono side and 764 ft on the other, and i. will be 136 ft wide. A shed 76Cft long bv e_lft tvid« will bo erected on tba centre, and two lines cf rails will be run on each side of the wharf. In all 1067 piles will be required and some of these will measure up to 70f* in lentrth and be ISin and 20m square, as the case may be.
