SHIPPING SPACE.
PREFERENCE TO BEEP AND
CHEESE
(SPECIAL TO "THE TRESS.") WELLINGTON. April 8. Speaking to a "Post representative this afternoon on the subject of tho shortage of shipping space, the l'rimo Minister (the Right Hon. W. F. Massey) said:—
"Tho Imperial Government is asking us to give > prefercnco to beef and cheese, as both aro required for tho troops. Tho dairying reason is now coming to an end, and a very large proportion of tlic output of butter and cheese has been sent away. Cheeso must go, because it is required as ratioas for tho soldiers. So far as I ■can see, most of tho butter now in 6tore will have to stop over lor tho present. In any case, a, quantity is required for homo consumption, and I will do m.v best to keep tho flax industry going, in accordance" with tho request of the deputation mado to mo a few days ago. out I do not expect to be able tc make any definite statement on the subject for a week or two.''
