HON. ELIHU ROOT A POSSIBLE
CANDIDATE

WASHINGTON, April 8. A movement which has been started to induce the Hon. Elihu Root to contest the Presidential election is widely favoured, even Colonel Roosevelt's friends joining it. Mr Root is believed to be likely to accent nomination, if sufficient support is forthcoming.
The Hon. Elihu Root is probably the greatest authority in America on problems of International Law. He was born at Clinton, N.V., in ISlo, and was educated at Hamilton College, and the University Law .School of New xork. He was a member of the Alaskan Boundary Tribunal, "was District Attorney for Southern Sew York 188383. Secretary of War for the United o ta *° s 1899-190-1, and Secretary of State 1900. and Senator Counsel for the United States, North Atlantic Fisheries Arbitration, The Hague 1910. He has oeen Senator for New York since 1909, ftnd is a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague, ttnd President of the American Society Of Internationa: Law.
