reander-in-Chicf of the British Expeditionary Forces in Mesopotamia, reports : —"Major-General Aylmer advanced on Monday night, and moving along the right (southern) bank of the rigns. reached Es Sinn, seven miles enot of Kut-01-Aniara. He attacked the Turkish position on "Wednesday, hut was unable to dislodge the enemy, who suffered verv severely.
"Beyond strengthening his position the enemy has not- since shown any activity. Our casualties were slight."

"WELLINGTON, March 10. The following special message has been received trom tho New Zealand official war correspondent, dated March 4th:—"After several weeks of training and reorganising the New Zealand troops are again at tho top of their form, and are ready for any eventuality. The Mounted men have been doing useful patrol work. The general health of the troops is very satisfactory. Their spare time has been filled in with football tournaments, rowing, and swimming. "Tho Canal defences are now sufficiently strong to repel any probable enemy attack, which, owing to the success of tho Russians at Erzcrouni, becomes daily less imminent/'

HOME, March 9. The "Tribuna" says that two Austrian Dreadnoughts hare been completed, and it is proposed to rush them to the Dardanelles, which explains the removal of.the mines there.
[Previous messages stated that the Porte had {riven orders for all mines to be cleared from the Dardanelles."]
