There ivas a yarding of 742 sheep at the Pleasant Point stock sale yesterday •against 2081 at tho last .sale. The entries comprised IGI fat ewes, 256 fat Mothers, 28G lambs, G rams, and 25 stores. The sale was rather slow, and prices for fats showed a slight decline. Of the offerings. 172 were passed Ewes made lis Cd to 225, wethers I7s to 225. lambs 14s 2d to 23s sd, and. rams 5s to 7s (id. Twenty-five (mixed sexes) lambs offered in the store pens | were knocked down at 5s Gd. The yarding of cattlo totalled 87, of which G3 were in tho fat pens. There was a c;ood demand, and competition was keen, esneeiallv for some prime steers, which sold at 40s per 1001b. Other sorts brought from 30s to 355. Tho following prices were naid: —Steers £G 14s to £15 12s Gd, heifers £o 17s Gd to 1310 ss, .cows £8 to £9 Gs, and vcalcrs los to 30s. GRAIN SALES AT TIMARU. (special to "the tress.") ' , TIMAIiU, January 17. 'I ho first of tho new season's grain in South Canterbury was on tho market' in Tiniaru to-day. A line of Dun oats which was offered was of very good quality, considering the season. It is understood that it found a buyer at 3s 5d on trucks at a penny station. The yield of this particular line was 37 bushels to tho acre. An exceptionally good lino of Capo barley also canic on to tho market, and this changed hands at 4s 4d, sacks in, at a country station. In this ease the yield was 35 bushels per acre. Somo new wheat was also shown. Although the berry was smaller than last year, the -wheat was of exccptionally good quality.
