The Frozen Meat Trade Association sSmithfield Market quotations for the undermentioned classes of fro7.cn meat are based on actual sale? of not frwer than 100 carcases of mutton or lamb., or 25 carcases of beef, of fair average quality. These quotations ave not for selected lines, but for parcels l'airlv representative of the bulk of the shipments now on the market: —

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., havo received a cablegram * from London giving tho undernoted market information: — Wool sales—The anticipation is for a strong demand in tellers' favour. Tallow —We quote present spot values for tho following descriptions:—Fine mutton 54s per cwt., good beef 52s per cwt.. mixed 48s 6d per cwt. Tho market is active." SATURDAY'S POULTRY MARKET. Messrs J. B. Merrett and Co. had an exceptionally largo entry, composed largely of hens. Prices were remarkably firm. Table chickens realised (is 6d to 10s 4d, ducks 4.s 6d to Ss 7(1, piil lets 3s Gd to 10s. ge.eso 7s to Bs, hens lis to 5s 3d, all per pair. EGG MARKET. Tho egg supply is good as is also tho demand. The Canterbury Egg Circle reports last week a large increase on last year. This is not due to extra production so much as to concentration of supplies. First grades realised Is sd, second grades Is 4d. Country store eggs arc dull of safe from Is 2<l to Is 3d. The latter prices are duo to want of grading and marketing in approved form. TATTERSALL'S HORSE BAZAAR. Messrs H. IMatson and Co. had an entry of 47 horses on Saturday. The quality all round was very mediocre, a large proportion of tho entry being aged harness horses in poor condition. There is a demand for good young harness horses, but such arc hard t'o procure. Among the principal sales were:—Account D. Pihl, Ohoka, three-year-old colt, &13 10s; account J. Brycc, Sockburn, horse, trap, and harness, £30 10s :. account-; client-, thoroughbred mare Glee, £9; account B. Woollcy, Christchurch, four-year-old marc, £12; .account client, aged harness gelding £15 10s. Old horses made the usual prices. ASHBURTON MARKET. During the week transactions reported in grain as between grower and merchant have been few. Harvesting is general in the low#r districts, ana already a largo area of the oat crop is in stack. A littlo threshing has been done both of oats and wheat, the bulk of the oats threshed being Algerians. Wheat. —For old wheat, recent sales reported were on the basis of os 6d, on trucks, for Tuscan, and 5s 8d to 5s 9d for Pearl. The quality of the new crop samples submitted so ,far, is much below last season's standard. The grain is small and thin, although the condition appears satisfactory. No sales of new wheat have so far been reported. Oats.—The only variety of new season's oats offered in the market as yet is Algerian, and tho samples are very light and unsuitable for seed purposes. Buyers show little interest in them owing to the large quantity of Australian Algerians which have, been purchased, chiefly by the .North Island, and the quality of which is very satisfactory, and the cost being much below priccs indicated by local growers. Now feed Gar-tons for prompt delivery may be quoted as worth 3s. on trucks. Chaff. —Prime old quality oatsheaf chair is now offering freely, and commands from 105s to 110s, 011 trucks, according to locality. New chaff for immediate delivery has been sold afc 100s to 105s for local use.
