A very successful dance was held in the Town Hall, Sumner, on Friday evening, tho proceeds being in aid of tha Patriotic Fund. The hall wag tastefully decorated with fl-ags and evergreens by Superintendent Carter, of the Fire Brigade, the bunting used being kindly lent by Messrs T. Armstrong and u. There was a large gathering, which included a number of visitors from Chri3tchurch, wjio were conveyed home by special tram at 2 a.m. The evening wa« -arranged by a committee of young ladies, with Mr 0. B. Clayton as secretary, and as a result of their labouri the sum of .£8 4s will be added to the Patriotic Fund. On Saturday evening an open-air patriotic concert was given from the Sumner Band Rotunda _by a party of Sumner and Redcliffs ladies. There was a large gathering of tha public, which greatly appreciated tho excellent programme given. The piano wa3 kindly lent by Messrs Webley and Sons. The aoompaniments wero played by Miss Foster and Mif? a Warner. At the conclusion of the concert a party of returned eoldipra wcro entertained by tho performers.; During the. cpurse of the programme several wellknown residents took riund collecting buckets, and by this mean s realised the sum of S3, which amount has been handed t? the Major, to be forwarded to tha Patriotic Fund.
