LOSS OF H.M.S. NATAL. COURT-MARTIAL BEING HELD, The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, Jarfuary 12 (4.15 p.m.) in the House of Commons I>r. McTxamara, _ Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty, announced that a courtmartial was being held on the loss of the cruiser Natal, which was sunk by an internal explosion while in harbour, with the losg of upwards of 300 men. The chief officer, an engineer, four other officers, and eighteen. Lascars of the steamer Clan Macfarlane, wiiich was. sunk m the Mediterranean 'on December-30th, have been picked up. Thirteen Lascars died in one of the boats. THE MINE PERIL; TWO ITALIAN STEAMERS SUNK. ' SOME LOSS OF LIFE. (Received January 13th, 7.30 p.m.) HOME, January 12. The Italian steamers Brindisi and Citta- di Palermo were sunk by mines in the Adriatic. Nearly all on board were sa^ed.
There are two steamers named Citta di Palermo in "Lloyd's Register." One is a triple-screw turbine steamer—similar to the ferry steamer Maori—owned by the Italian State Railways Department. She is a vessel of 8415 tons gross register, bnilt at Palermo in 1910. The -other is a cargo steamer of 3022 tons gross register, built in England in 1897. and owned by W. I' 1 . Becker, of Messina.
The Brindisi was a small steamer of 863 tons gross register, built in 1895, and owned by the Puglia Steam .rinvigation Co., of Bari.
