PROBABLE NEW SERVICES. ' ' I MONTHLY SAILINGS PROPOSED, j It is announced by 5 the "Weekly Commercial News" of San Francisco, in its issue of December 11th, which came to hand by yesterday's mail, that 'Messrs Houlder Brothers and Co., of London, have decided to establish a new steamship sorvice from San Francisco to Australia and New Zealand. Messrs Macondray Brothers and Co. havo been appointed as the San Francisco agents for the new | According to , the "Commercial News," it is intended to put highclass modern freight steamers on the service, and to have monthly sailings from ' either terminus. Naturally, the promoters of the service expect to obtain freights in meat, wool, etc., from the Commonwealth and Dominion ports carrying . News of another contemplated new service comes from Vancouver. It is stated that the Chicago, Milwaukee, and Paget Sound Railroad Company is at the head of a combination of Seattle business men who propose to run a service from Seattle, the big lumber port, on Puget Sound, near the British Columbian border, to New Zealand and Australia, with calls it other Pacific ports. Tho proposal is to build three * large steamers for combined passenger and freight traffic, and it is stated that contracts, for their construction are expected to be placed with American yards within a few weeks.
