CITY ELECTRICAL SCHEME.
to ttte Enrroß or "the tress."
Sir, —The Mayor's letter of the Bth inst. states that 1 provided a plant a given capacity in five to soven years. As I hold the British Board of-Trado first-class certificate as an engineer, 1 am prepared to teach and illustrate to the Mayor the difference between maximum demand and maximum capa-| city, as there is no doubt but that he is absolutely ignorant o; these questions. "With all due rospect to his advisers under above conditions, one would not expect the 'oVlayor himself to understand mechanical * and clcc.trical engineering terms. The littles | illustration of £1000 is. all very well for the gallery of a suburban theatre or tho 4th Standard in some outlying school, .but business men and "engineers. don't waste their time over such twaddle as this. The flavor's contention with regard to the great saving in using the steam plant to keep down the peak load, giving the credit to the present engineer, is misleading. I laid this matter out and placed same before the Council during my term of office. Having serenely " steered the Christchurch Municipal electrical * undertaking through for eight, years and other equally important schemes, rest assured that I do not get tangled up in half a dozen figures. As the Mayor does not, want to hurt my professional reputation. I would advi.so him to just write a few lines to the paper stating that ho knows little or nothing beyond what he is told. During these war times certain folk are liable to delusions. Lei me assure the Mayor that "plant capacity" is not referred to in my report, therefore he should read a*little more carefully before bursting out into print against those have served him well and faithfullv —Yours, etc., J. CIIOMBIK SCOTT. Lntfc Cit-v Electrical Kngincer. Christehurc-h, January 12th, 191-3.
