SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the North Canterbury District of tho New Zealand ; Educational Institute was hold at tho j Normal School on Saturday, to con-) sider business in connexion "with tho I annual meeting of tho New Zealand Educational Institute. I Mr W. N. Seay presided over a fair j attendance. ! A circular letter to school committees in regard to school efforts to raise war funds —indicating ways in -which tho funds might best be helped—was approved for circulation. The nominations of officers for the N.Z.E.I, for the ensuing year were as follow: —President. Mr E. Eudey (Ota^o); vice-prcsident. Mr N. G. Cousins; secretary. Mr H. A. Parkinson; treasurer, Mr E. U. Just; nonofficial member of committee (South Is- • land), Mr J. Caughley. Nominations for five district representatives to the annual meeting wero handed in in favour of Misses M. Smith and A. Barker, and Messrs J. E. Purchase, J. J. Adams, and W. N. Seay. Considerable discussion ensued with regard to matters arising out of tho new subdivision of the educational district. Tiie Constitution Committee recommended that tho present district institutes should be abolished, and that independent institutes bo established at geosiaphical centres. The principle was approved, and the meeting thought that such institutes should not have a less membership than 20.
