THE WELLINGTON ALLEGATIONS. I REPLY BY THE SECRETARY OF THE CENTRAL BODY. (rxxss ASSOCIATION' TtUGRAJi.) "WELLINGTON, December 3Mr Joseph Lewis, secretary of the Wellington Patriotic Society, takes exception to tho remarks made yesterday by the Hon. G. W. Russell, Minister of the Interior, relative to carnival funds. Writing under yesterday's date, to Mr Hislop, Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs, Mr Lewis says:—'"The writer is under tho impression that all committees havo paid into his Society, per medium of himself, or of tho hon. treasurer, all moneys held by such committees. as a result of tho recent carnival. Tho point at issuo lies between tho Socicty and two of the Queen Committees. the difficulty being the nonprod uetion ol" audited balance-sheets. The names of the officials concernod will be supplied to you immediately should you so desire. I shall he gla<i if you will be good enough to correct the alleged statement of the Press to tho cffect that ccrtain committees arc still retaining moneys which should have been paid in some time ago to my Society, as this is a misstatement calculated to prejudice tho public and thereby hinder any future operations of my, or any other, Socicty, in tho direction of providing for dependents of our New Zealand soldiers and sailors. 1 would state, in conclusion, that any information you'may de«iro is at any time completely at your disposal."
