An official communique says: "The artillery is active at the Dardanelles on both sides. Wo have caused important damage to Turkish works. "The weather has been severe, but is now milder."

IHE ENEMY'S STATEMENT.

(Received December 3rd, 10 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, December 3. A Turkish communique says: "Wo Captured a portion of the enemy's entanglements and trenches near Anafarta. "An enemy cruiser opened firo on our left wing, but retreated before our .torpedo craft." TURKISH CONFIDENCE. RELYING ON GERMAN ASSISTANCE. ' (Received December 3rd, 10 p.m.) SALONICA, Deceibber 3. Mr Ward Price reports that Greeks who have arrived at Salonica from Constantinople say that food| is very dear there. Tho casualties of the Turks at tho Dardanelles are estimated at £00,000. Many sick and ill-clothed men have arrived at Constantinople from Gallipoli Peninsula. Tho Turks maintain that the Dardanelles cannot bo forced. Thev are looking forward to tho time when heavy supplies of German ammunition will enable them to drive the Allies off the Peninsulh. One Greek spid that.a, battery of German lOin guns has b?en sent to Chanak. It will most likely be fivo weeks .before railway communication with Austria is re-established, the Serbians having greatly damaged the Nish-Belgrado section.

Dr. Schott, director of the Hamburg Observatory, describes the Dardanelles and the Bosphorus ,as joint bridgeheads on the great international route of tho future—namely, Berlin, \ ienna, Constantinople, and the Bagdad railway t-o tho Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean.
