RED CROSS ACTIVITIES.
4 NEW DEPARTMENT. FREE WORK DISTRIBUTION'. To meet (he requirements of those anxious to help in providing for the .alleviation of the t>i:fFerings of our wounded and sick soldiers, the Bed Cross Executive recently added to its agencies ,a new department—the free work distribution branch. This is housed in tho premises at 119 Worcester .street, formerly used for the Red Cress Depot, which is now accommodated in more commodious quarters at tho corner of Manchester and Worcester streets. Tho object of tho new department is to provide free material, all ready cut out, to those who wish to work for tho Red Cross and v.-ho are unable to proeuro the material in any other way. The distributing branch buys tho matelials from the denot and cuts it out ready for making. A list of the articles required to be made will interest those who may be desirous of helping with their labour. Here it is: Shirts, pyjamas, under-vests, underpants, bed jackets, dressing gowns, soldiers' kits, slings, handkerchiefs, soldiers' treasure bags, wool for knitting, material for making bandages, body belts, and short>. The tree work distribution branch is open on all week days, except Saturdays, the hours being from 2 p.m. to .> p.m. To meet the convenience of those who are not nblo to visit the branch during these hours, it is oj>cn for an hour on Friday nights Irom ■ .30 to 5.30. The branch is supported by voluntary* contributions, and in instances contributors gi*o legular periodical donations. It is not necessary that those who take material to make up should subscribe. The branch is under the charge of Mrs Richard All cat. who has a. number of Indies assisting her. Miss M. Lottcrill is tho secretiirv. The work of the branch is, ris yet, in its initial stages, but it is hoped that as the objects of the new department become better known, a great many people will work for it.
