QUEEN CARNIVAL.

PUBLIC SERVICE GROUP. A meeting of the North Cantcrbuiy Hospital anc] Charitable Aid Board s staff, other than medical and nursing, was held' in the Board's officii on Wednesday. Mr Wharton presided. -Mr Knox, the Public Service Group secretary. addressed the meeting. Jf, was decided to form a section of the Public Service Group. Mr W. S. Wharton was elected chairman, Miss W. I*. Norris secretary, and the following were appointed as a committee: Miss Wills, Messrs Harrop, Loughton, ltankin, and Warsaw. It was decided to leave the appointment of representatives on the executive in the hands of the committee, -with power to act. The committee met subsequently and appointed Messrs "Wharton and S. Rankin.

WHOLESALE AND RETAIL. In connexion with the Queen Carnival, a well-attended meeting of ihe employees of the hardware and machinery merchants was held in tho Y.M.C.A. Concert Hall last evening. The objects of the meeting were fully explained by Messrs S. A. .Orchard (chairman of the Wholesale and lletail Executive Committee), W. Morley, and W. Bull. A committee, comprising two delegates from each firm, was .set up to interview the various staffs and to report progress at a further meeting on Mondav night. Mr 'I'. K. Clayton was elected chairman, and Mr S. M. Stuart lion, secretary. A resolution affirming the proposal of the. chairman of the Executive Committee to build Up the fund bv direct contributions, was carried unanimously.
