QUIET ON THE WHOLE FRONT. GERMAN'S ASSUMING THE DEFENSIVE. ("Times" and "Sydney Sun" Serviooa.) LONDON. December 1. The correspondent of "Tho Times" at Petrograd says tho Germans on the Riga front are definitely assuming tho defensive, and havo established strongly fortified positions, protected by four lines of wire entanglements. A continual stream of reinforcenients is flowing in, but the whole Russian front is quiet, in view of the Balkan development. Experts regard tho southern part of the Russian line as tho most important, owing to the enemy's concentration in that region. RUSSIA'S WAR LOAN. MOSCOW MANUFACTURERS' SUPPORT. (Received December 2nd, 5-.o p.m.) LONDON, December 1. Tho Moscow cloth manufacturers havo agreed to subscribe £100,000,000, equal to one-tenth of their capital, to tho Russian War Loan.
