BOROUGH COUNCILS.

WOOLSTON. The \Voolston Borough Council met last evening. Present: Tho Mayor (Mr J. J. Graham), CVs. J. B. Richardson. J. B. Hobson. L. Hart, T. Radcliffe, F. .Newton, I>. Mcßae, G. Lilley, and AV. Fuller. The Works Committee recommended that the Chinaman occupying I>r. Simo's land bo given 28 days' notice to remove the no;>lar trees wnieh were damaging tho footpath, and that tho channelling of Marshall street be held over until the by-laws in regard to streets were completed. The report was adopted. Mr A. A. liickerton, Government Analyst, forwarded a report on tho analysis of 7 samples of trudo effluents submitted to him by the Council, which were taken from the Heatfuote river.— Received. Tho Petone Borough Council's resolution relative to the dependents of soldiers who have lost their lives in the sprvicc of their country, was ap-, proved. ! The Public Works Department'.' engineer wrote, submitting a summary of the Department's proposed agreement in regard to the supply of electricity to the borough for confirmation. The E\ectrical Committee recommended that the proposal to complete reticulation to private houses by the Department be accepted, provided that where the Council consider tho cost of reticulation excessive, they retain the right of refusal: that tho proposal that the Department retain the right to supply power and light to Government Departments, other local authorities, and to Messrs Bowron Bros., Exnort and Trading Co., G. L. Bowron and Co., Walter Hill. Davis Bros.. Baker Bros., and J. K. Garland, be accepted under protest, as the committee considered it most unfair to the borough; that the Council receive a percentage on any power over oO h.p. supplied to anv new industry or factory; that the Council should have the right of renewal after four years, the term of contract to bo two years with the right of renewal for four years. In regard to the last-named recommendation, the Council adopted an amendment to the effect that the period of contract should he three years, with right of renewal by the borough for another three ycara under the same terms. The report, as a whole, was then adooted.
