An official communique' says: — "A surprise advance in the Carso region enabled ns to make marked progress in tiie direction of Peteano. Small engagements were favourable to us elsewhere." REPORTED AUSTRIAN DESERTIONS. LONDON, September 27. The "Corriere Delia Sera" (Milan), learns from Bucharest that the Italian campaign is gieatly demoralising the Hungarians. The new recruits are deserting en masse rather than go to the Italian front.
