PERSONAL ITEMS.
The Hon. J. A. Hanan, Minister of Education, returned to Wellington last night after a flying visit to the south.
Mr E. C. Tozer, who is leaving for the front, was presented on Saturday night with a wristlet watch by the members of the Fedoral Rugby League Club. Mr Tozer is the twentieth member of the club who has been accepted for service.
Lieutenant G. S. La vie, who is leaving for the front with the next reinforcements, and is now down on final leave, paid a visit to Sumner yesterday and said good-bye to a large circle of friends. During his resideuce in Sumner, which has extended over a number of years, Lieutenant Lavie has taken a keen interest in the Lifeboat Brigade and the Royal Life-saving Society;
At the meeting of the Halswell Sports Club last evening Mr A. Rose was presented with a handsome gold watch, suitably inscribed, as a token of the esteem in which he is held- in the district. and as an appreciation of his valuable services as secretary for two years, during which time the clnb made marked progress. In making the presentation Mr J. E, Ferguson eulogised the public and private character of Mr Rose, and expressed the regret felt at his removal to Christchurch.
