: OPENING KUN TO WAIHOKA. PARK. j Tho Pioneer Motor Club's opening run of tho eeason waa hold yesterday. Tho weather was all that could bo desired, the, wind that prevailed having little effect in tb© well sheltered park. At 9.50 160 motorists and other friends met at the Club's rooms. A number of those who weTe unable to got accommodation in the side-cars called''into servico a- hug© motor bus, arid 3D' made the trip in this conveyance. After being photographed a gtart was made, and eioopt for minor mishaps tho grounds were reached at eleven o'clock. Shortly alter 27 Ashburton members arrived, and were entertained as the Pioneer Club's guests. A friendly game of football, married versus single players, wa« enjoyed and resulted in a win for the married members. Mr R. Wallace . acted as reforoe. Donaldson and Merrott secured tries for tho winners and Vaughan converted oho goal. Harman and Smith scored for the single men. Luncheon ibos ptrtftkon of tho park gardens, fully 200 participating. Sports were afterwards held. Many novel events had been arranged, and- Ahoy afforded mucu enjoyment. It was conceded that a similar progranuno hold in Christehurch would attract thousands ,and balp to augment the Patriotic Fund. Afternoon tea was then dispensed, and Mr W. H. Atnoa, on he half of tho Ashburton Club, thanked tho Pioneer Club for tho splendid reception given Tho Ashburton members hoped to have a return visit, when they would guarantee their visitors a reel good time. , '
