WELL-KNOWN CRICKETERS AT THE FRONT.
(special to "the preSs.") DUNEDIN, August 27. Cricketers will be interested to know that "Tommy" McFarlane, the representative Otago and New Zealand player, has been, and is probably still, in tho thick of the fighting at Galiipoli. In d cheery letter to the Mayor (Mr J. J. Clark), the Albion man says:
"Her© we are-stuck in the trenches, and I am just dying to got a on to some of them to avenge those mates of mine whom they havo blown out." Tho writer mentions that a mail bad just been delivered in the trenches, and with tho bullets whistling overhead ho had read of Mr Clark's victory in the Mayoral contest. "You can bet," lio adds, "I felt like giving a cheer."' After mentioning that be and Condliffe (the Otago representative wicketkeeper) had had some good times together in Egypt. "Tommy" concludes by saying: have had some very narrow escapes, and you never know whose turn it will be next, but before they get me I'll have the satisfaction of knowing that I have done myvbitj'
