WAIAU SALEYARDS COMPANY
A meeting of farmers interested in the formation of saleyards in Waiau was held on Saturday afternoon in the Coionation Library. Thare were about thirty present, and Mr W. Gale was voted to the chnir. The secretary pro tern. (Mr H. T. Beaven) reported that support had been promised by 54 members takinc im £306 worth of shares. Mr Pcttigrew proposed, and Mr Netting seconded, that stops bo taken to at once form a company to erect saleyards in or near Waiau. The motion was carried, and, later, it was decided that thc yards should be on the north side of the river. It was decided that a public meeting of shareholders should be called to decide upon the question"of the site for the saleyards, and that absentees should be allowed to vote by proxy. It was decided also that each shareholder should have one vote only, irrespective of tho number of shares held, and that seven days' notice bo given to each shareholder. It was agreed that the company should be known as the Waiau Saleyards Company, and provisional director-- were e'octetl as follows: — Messrs H. T. Beaven, L. J. Pulley, G.
B. Fisher, W. Gale, D. A. McKie. J. Little, J. Kennedy, and A. McDougall. RANGIORA. Tho annual show under the auspices of the Northern Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association will be held at Rangiora to-day and to-morrow. The entries are good. The totals, as compared with those of las€ year, are as follows.— 1914. 1915. To-morrow evening a meeting will be held m the Swannanoa Hall to arrange for a hare drive which is to be hold shortly in aid of the Patnotio F * llld - m, The concert given on Thursday evening by the Maoris from Tuahiwi, in aid of the Red Cross Fund, was a hugo success. Mr F. Pearce presided over a crowded audience. The concert opened with a Maori Waiata by the girls, followed by numerous, songs and hakas. The items were as follows .—Song. "Get Out and Get Under," M r SPohio; singlo poi (katiros), ..girls; song "Heroes of Dardanelles," Miss H Rehu; haka. Maori wamors; song, "Marchine Into Berlin," Mrs Kereopa; double poi, girls; Maori cradle song, girls; Waiata Arahanui, girls and boys; song, Master L. Karatiana; haka. warriors; duet, Soldiers of tho King" (in Maori) Master Niho-Niho and Wi Timoti; part _*ong. "Wangamn." girls Mid boys; song, "Knitting," Miss H. Rebu -. welcome haka Tora Maitewaka, warriors; comic song, Mr W. B. Kantftiana; Kani-kani, girls and boysAfter the concert supper was served, followed by a dance. KAIAPOI. At a medical examination of the pupils attending the Kaiapoi District Hiirh School yesterday, some of the pupils were found to be showing symptom., of scarlet fever. The committee has decided to close tho school for a time, and to have it thoroughly disinfected.
