FIRES.
BIG BLAZE 7X SYDNEY. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) SYDNEY. May 20. Tho six-storied huilding of tho Australian Paper Company was gutted by fire and several adjacent buildings were damaged. (Received May 26th. 11.40 p.m.) The top floor,;; of the Australian Paper Company's building were occupied by McDonald and Maloncy. agents, the Excelsior Printing- Company, AA'atson (printer), and others. All were burned out. The lire spread to. nnd seriously damaged, several floors of the Australasian Temperance and General Assurance Company's new buildings, situated at tho roar. Tlie occupants of the flats there, including .a number of leading actors and actresses, had an exciting time, escaping in their night attire.
A number of firemen wero cut off, but managed to reach places of safety.
The Paper Company's losses included the destruction of very heavy stocks of paper.
Estimates of the total damage range to nearly £50,000. , -
