Colonel Doughty AVylio, a Staff officer, while superintending the landing of the Australians on Gallipoli Peninsula, saw from the ship their gallant, but fruitless, charges from the shore trenches. He obtained permission .to go ashore, ran in front of the men, and shouted to them to follow. The Australians responded with a cheer, rushed up the fire-swept incline, capturing position after position until the enemy was cleared out. Colonel Doughty AVylie was shot down, but before he died he knew that the hill had been won.
