He then entered tho service of the Central Cable Company in -South America, but loft his position at Buenos Ayres to go to London to enlist. He joined tho Hon. Artillery Company, and is at present quartered at the Tower of London. Captain John Henry Arden, a New Zealander with tho Worcestershire Regiment, who last Friday w*as reported to have received tho Distinguished Service Order for conspicuous gallantry arc! ability at Neuve-Chapelle, was formerly a station holder near Cane Runaway, and was well-known on the East Coast of tho North Island. When a battalion on his right was expelled from the trenches ho formed his company, under heavy fire, and coun-ter-attacked tho German right with great determination, and' the battalion reoccupied tho trenches. Last Friday evening th. employees of W. Strang'o and Co.'s furniture factory met to say good-bye to Mr A. J. Goodstein, who was leaving to tako up ambulance duties at tho front. Mr Goodstein, who held the position of factory manager, was presented with several useful and suitable articles for the calling he was taking up. Mr C. Boult mado the presentation on behalf of the employees. Mr Goodstein replying, 6aid he felt somo regret at parting from tliem, but being a single man ho thought ho was only doing his duty in volunteering to help his King and Empire.
