BETWEEN TWO FIRES.
AN INCIDENT ON THE YSER CANAL. Ta"RIS, April 30. Newspaper reports stato that during the recent iight four thousand Germans crossed the Iser Canal, near Steenstraato. Belgian artillery destroyed the bridge by which they had crossed, thus cutting off their retreat, while the Belgian field guns swept them with shrapnel. The Germans hoisted handkerchiefs on riflos as a sign that they had surrendered, whereupon the German machine-guns' on the opposite bank of the Yser mowed them down. The Belgians took those who survived prisoners.
