Mr "William Barnard Rhodes Moorhouso belongs to a family whoso name is bound up with tho history of Oanterburv. H© was the son of Mr Edward iloorhouse. of Kpratton Grange, His mother was a daughter of Mr W. B.Rhodes, who was the first settler to introduce cattlo into the Canterbury province. Mr Moorhouse, who was about 25 years of age. was educated at Harrow, and visited Christchurch about seven or eight years ago. On his return to England ho continued his education at Cambridge University.- He was endowed with superb physical courage and daring, and_ on leaving Cambridge ho took up aviation with marked success. In 1911 he was second to Hamel in the "Daily Mail" Aerial Derby—a circuit round London. He carried on a manufactory of flying machines and an aerodrome. When the war broke out, Mr Moorhouse joined thq Royal Flying Corps, and was at first put in charge of an aeroplane factory, with the rank of Flying Commander. He was in charge of a factory in France, but according to tho cable messages, he was actually flying in action when ho received tho wounds which led to tho premature death of one who had proved himself a singularly successful and intrepid aviator, and" who in his short life had already rendered signal service to his country. Three voars aco Mr Moorhouse married Miss LimU B. Morritt, an English girl, by whom he had one child. His only brother is now on his way to New Zealand, and is expected to arrive in a few days.
