Flue weather prevailed for file continuation of tho Canterbury Rugby Union's senior competition on tSaturday afternoon. Thoro was a fair attendance at Lancaster Park, wherethe match between Christehureh and Merivalo was tho 'chief attraction. The Christchurch backs gavo a splendid exhioition of tho passing game, and as tho forwards stood up to their opponents well they always appeared to hold the upper hand. 'Varsity ami Manst Bros, fought out an even tussle- on tho south ground, while Albion just won their game on tho call of time against Sydenham. At Linwood Park tho homo team proved too strong in the forwards for Old Boys, and won easily. CHJUSTCHURCITv. MEItIYALE. This gamo was always interesting to watch, being very fast and open throughout. The Christchurch. backs wero too fast and clever for their opponents, and eventually their side- won comfortably. Merivalo were quickly put upon the defensive, and a pretty piece of passing initiated at half-way, ended in A. H. Guiney scoring at tho corner. C. E. Guiney failed -»t goal. Good kicking by Evans placed Menvalo in an attacking position, and a ponaltr to Merivalo near tho goal enabled Hasell to send the ball between tho poste. Cade, following up fast, bustled tho Christchurch full-back, and- C. .E. Guiney in attempting to clear miskicked, enabling Evans to score an easy try. Evans failed, at ■ goal. Christ"church mado tiso of their backs, and from a scrum at half way Burns worked tho blind side, passing to Mebrtens, who sent on to A. H. After a good deal of up and down play Christchurch, aided by passing rushes, worked their way to the Menvalo twenty-five, where C. E. MARISTS (6). These teams mot on the South Ground at Lancaster Park, and a poor gamo resulted in rather a, lucky win for tho students. Offside, play by the Greens gavo JJorrett an easy chanco at goal, but tho kick just failed. From tho kick out McLeod, fielded tho ball splendidly, and after a groat rush scored near tho corner. Ho added tho extra points. McCallum was penalised in front of the goal for -holding on, and O'Malley's kick • hit the upright. Tho Students cleared., Smyth got over the lino a minute later, but the lin© umpire's flag was up, and tho Groens wero recalled. A passing bout, amongst the Marists' backs let Mullins oxer. Tho kick failed. Amodeo gained possession from tho kick out, and passing between him and M. 'CMalley, let tho last-named player over in a good position. Tho kick failed. This match, played atLimvood Park, resulted in a fairly easy win for Linwood, whoso forwards wero much too good for their opponents, though there was nothing very brilliant about , tho display. [ Linwood, with the advantage of tho wind, quickly «et up an attack, .and Harvey, picking up in a loose ruhh, passed to W. Cummings, who scored in a fair position.- Picrev made a poor shot at, goal. Linwood kept .their opponents busy defending, and . from a lintsout Petersou forced his way across and registered Linwood's second try. McCor- ! mack's attempt at goal wont wide of the mark. Very soon after \Y. Cummings scored again, his task being made easier than was necessary by poor tackling. E. McGcrty failed with tho kick :at goal. Old Boys could get no relief, : an<T ac tho result of a passing rush, Stirling scored a -try, which Hobson failed to convert. Just on half-time, ; Old Boys took play to their opponents' twenty-five. Linwood wero penalised, and Nixon kicked a firio Roal. ! Early in the second half, from a i penalty kick Nixon was successful in I ulacing another good goal for Old Boys. Linwood cleared their lines, and i a passing rush enabled E. Cummings to score right by tho post, and Picrcy ■was able to land a goal.
