Aliss F richer, of "Quamby," Fendalton, met with a rather painful accident in Cathedral square on Thursday afternoon. Sho attempted to cross tho tramline, and was knocked down by an Edgeware road tramcar, of tho approach of which she was unaware. The motorman applied the brakes promptly, but was unablo to prevent tlie car striking Aliss FrickKr. who was hurt about the face and hands, and suffered much from shock. Tho tramway authorities took care of tho injured lady and obtained medical assistance for her. Tho occurrence, according to eye-witnesses, was purely accidental. AA'alter Hill aged 16, residing in Taylor street,' Addington, lost control of his bicycle while descending the road from Lyttelton to Sumner yesterday, and was thrown heavily to the ground, being severely cut about the faco and head. A man named Hay, while cycling at New Brighton, was run into at the intersection of Seaview and River roads by a motor-car, and thrown heavily to the ground, the force of the impact rendering him unconscious. Dt. Stevens was summoned, and conveyed Hay to hi s surgery, where he was restored to consciousness and his injuries —cuts about the face—treated. Eyewitnesses of the accident allege that the motorist gave no warning of his approach. Shortly before 10.30 a.m. on Thursday at Lyttelton, a party of Alapris. consisting "of Alisses AVateon and Piper, and two young children, had a narrow escape from serious injury. AVhilst proceeding along London street in a dog-cart, the horse took fright, and getting beyond control, galloped down Canterbury street. At tbe intersection with Norwich quay, the animal slipped and fell heavily to the ground. Tho'vehicle turned over on its side, and the occupants were thrown out. Aliss Watson, who, was driving, sustained several bruises and abrasions, and a severe cut on the hand. Sho wa s given first aid by Constable Lloyd, and after receiving medical treatment from Dr. Upham wa*s sent to the Christchurch Hospital. Mr Frazer, coroner, held an jjnquest on a fourteen-months-old baby, .Wilfred Enwright, and returned a verdict that death was due to poisoning caustic soda, the child having accidentally shaken the caustic soda on to a cake of soap, which it then ate.
