PIGEON SHOOTING.
TO TUF. EDITOR O? "THB I'll—18." Sir, T should like to ask thoso per r sons who indulge in pigeon shooting where tho sport lies. Surely the practice of letting poor defenceless birds out of boxes, allowing no quarter, killing and too often wounding them, must obviously appear to every right-minded man and woman as most cowardly and unsportsmanlike. Sport must indeed have reached a low ebb when men can stoop to actions such as this. Cannot people .calling themselves - spprtsm.nl and gentlemen distinguish between sport, and mcro cold-blooded murder ( In these enlightened days various laws aro mado for the protection and welfare of human beings who are. ablo to voico their grievances. . Cannot somethin'"- be clone for theso poor dumb am-liial-T' whoso very helplessness ..must often bo their sole defence?— _ours, CtC " NORTH CANTERBURY. ■"■
