SPORT AND THE WAR.
MELBOURNE, March 4. Mr Fisher, referring to a, suggestion that there should be a cessation of sport during the war, said he '.thought it would be a mistake to restrict healthy and legitimate sport, except where it interfered with the 'defence of the country and the great military task that was before the Empire. SYDNEY. March 4. The Council of the Lawn Tennis Association has reported that the time to receive challenges for the Davis Cup has expired and none has been received. The Council of the Association has granted the Queensland Lawn Tenuis Association's application to hold the Australasian Championships during the current year. " The Lawn Tennis Association has decided to ask to be released from interState matches this year, and to be allowed not to play its usual inter-club and pennant competitions.
