MEAT FOR THE ARMY.
PRICES FIXED
SYDNEY, March 4
The Government has fixer! the prices of mutton for Imperial uses, and the Imperial Government's, sanction thereto has boon received. The prices apply to 143,000 enrea-ses taken over on Wednesday, and hold good for all purchases in Mir.ch, after which readjustment -will l>e possible. Tbo prices are: Sheep, first and second qualities, 4id, third fjiuility 4Jd. ewes 4-Jd, thirds 4<l. lamb aid, thirds sgd. Beef prices have not. been settled.
Mr Flowers states that negotiations are proceeding with the Federal Government to secure several idle steamers to convey meat to England. If tho Meat Board succeeds in obtaining the loan of ships, tho Government will possibly despatch 150,000 carcases within tho next few days. Tho Board is also enquiring whether any prize ships are available.
