(PRE3S ASSOCIATION TELKGRAMS.) 1 NELSON, March 3. Daniel George Gilbertson. aged sixty, was fonnd dead at Sandy Bay. o GRBYMOTDTH, March 3. At the adjourned inquest on James Walker,. who was found drowned in the Hochstetter tunnel workings, the theory of Mr Bishop, Inspector oi Mines, was that deceased was overcome by fumes from the oil-engine exhaust pipes, the latter having had an outlet on a separate incline to the drive. The pipes showed a leakage in nearly all the joints, and the air current had been reversed. There were no special regulations dealing, with oil-engmes underground; neither was it necessary to notify the Department that such were iu'nse. The inspector, m reply to a' question, expressdd the opinion that the regulations concerning noxious fumes from steam-engines also ap-. plied to- oil-engines. The doctors testimony supported the theory that Walker died from iconoxido poisoning he having a lower resistance than normal through an extensive adhoroiice to the right lung chest wall. A verdict that death was due. to monoxide poisoning was returned.
