A PROPHET AND TRAITORS.
HOW THE REBELLION-WAS
ENGINEERED
PRETORIA, March 2. The official report shows that the rebellion was chiefly .due to th c prophecies of Van Ecnsburc. who was captured cm October 31st., He saw a vision of .sis bulls fighting a grey bull. The latter was victorious. and represented Germany. In another vision he saw 40,000 Germans marching through London.
Beyers and Kemp freely circulated tlm news of the vision, and General Beyers arranged for a complete rising on September loth. Ho played on General De la Ilex's religious suheeptibilities.
The reliels were to seize Potchefstroom ajid the railway. General Do la lley was to proceed east and General Beyers west to raise tho burghers in rebellion, but General De la Rcy was accidentally .shot that very night. Beyers proved a hypocritical traitor throughout. The vast majority of the rebels believed that they were assisting th<> Government. I)c Wet maintained the campaign by tho aid of tho grossest lies and slanders of Botha and Smuts.
