FRENCH DEFERENCE AND GERMAN VIOLATION.
GENEVA. March 2. In deference to the wishes of the Swiss Government, the French military authorities have removed a battery which had been placed close to the Swiss frontier.
The Treaty of Vienna prohibits fortifications within ten miles of Basel. Nevertheless thd • Germans .maintain Heavy fortifications and continue to construct trenches within a mile- of Basel.
