FCRIOUS FIGHTING IN THE
CARPATHIANS.
AUSTRIANS LOSE HEAVILY.
RUSSIAN ADVANCE IN THE
BUKOVINA
The High Commissioner reports —
LONDON". March 3rd (2.5 a.m.)
Petrograd advices, describing the Russians' victory at Przasnysz on .Saturday evening, state' that the Germans began a disorderly retreat, seeking to make a' way in the direction of Mlawa and Chorzele. The Russians, scorning fatigue, which was inevitable after their marching, followed by four
days' constant fighting, pushed a vigorous pursuit, and inflicted heavy losses on the oneniy's rearguards. Ten thousand prisoners were taken.
In .Eastern Galieia. the enemy has assumed the defensive. In the Jezupol region a Russian armoured train has been operating successfully.
In the Rukovinn, the Russians h&ro occupied Sadagora, a few miles nortli of Czernowitz.
LONDON, March 3rd (4.40 a.m.). Petrograd reports that on. the front between tho Niomen and tho Vistula, tho Russians continued the offensive on Monday. North-west of Grodno, tho enpiuv ha& fallen back, resisting stubbornly. In the Przasnysz region the Gei-
mans. are retiring precipitately on Janow and Mlawa.
In the Carpathians, in the Rabba and Razzciow district*, there was a furious battlo throughout Sunday. AH tho slopes of tho mountains, as well as tho rarinos. were strewn with Austrian dead. Many of the. units were annihilated.
North of Stropko. on Monday night, tho enemy made six attacks in massed formation. They were dispersed on every occasion, and finally the Russians charged with the bayonet and overthrew tho Austrians. Tho enemy also suffered a considerable defeat on the ronds near.Halica and in Eastern Galicia. v
fJcztipol is north of Stauislawow, between that town and Tlalicz. Stropkow is in Hungary, south of the Dukia Pass.' and tho Russian victory there shows that the Russians an> maintaining their hold on Hungarian territory.!
