'LOGICAL AXD INEVITABLE."
NEW YORK.. March 2. The Now York "Herald , ? states that the retaliatory measures ' which the Allies havo decided upon as an answer to the German .submarino attack, are tho logical and inevitable result of Germany's previous action. The Allies Trill fiphfc the devil with fire, whilo conforming to the dictates of humanity. I COPENHAGEN, March 2. Mr Asquith's statement has caused a ereat impression in business circles, which consider that tho courso decided upon by the Allies is calculated to wipe out the transport trade and isolate neutrals. . (Received March 4th. 1.23 a.m.) NEW YORK, March. 3. American opinion is highly critical of Mr Asquith's declaration. Many regard it as tantamount to a paper blockade. Tho "Times" and tho "Tribune" consider the American Government ought to try to hold the' Allies to the accepted form's of blockade in the interest of neutrals.
