MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Lyttclton Harbour Board was. held at Lyttolton yesterday. Presc-tit—Hon. H. Moore (chairman), and Messrs C. J. Harper. F,. Horrell, J. Storry, T. D. Boag. J. J. Dougall, M. J. Miller, J. Little, Chas. Allison.- Geo. Scott, H. Friedlander, J. R- and A. Knre.

An application was receired from Colonel Hobday, representing Morten's trustees, i'or permission to fiink a -well oa the north side of the Su inner Estuary, and to connect the proposed well with Mt. Pleasant Estate by laying a pipe-line across the estuary. The request was granted, subject to certain conditions.

The Secretary of Marine forwarded a copy of an Order-in-Council extending the" hour of election from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the combined district in which the Paparua County Council is the principal "authority." . It was decided to write to the Minister of Marine, asking who requested that the hours should be- altered. A letter was also received from the Marine Department advising that an ' Order-in-Council would be issued to j provide for the election of one member of the board by the electors of the boroughs of Kaiapoi and Rangiora, and j the counties of Rangiora, .Eyre, a.nd ' Oxford, in lieu of several Road Boards which have ceased to exist. A letter wae received from Mr L. TV. Kjrk, Government Director of Orchards, etc.. stating that the Board's proposed charges for the storage of honey were considered reasonable. ai.d that he had recommended that the Board's cool stores be gazetted a. grading store. Permission granted to the Officer in Command of the Artillery Force at Lyttelton to use the Board's poles on the north shore line tp carry two aerial lines, the cable to Hipa Island having been damaged*by dredging operations. Mr L. ST. Pprtcr, contractor for - the supply of iron bark, timber lor No. 8 jetty and'the"Gladstone Pier,,had been informed that as the contract deliveries were now completed, ihe Board was in a position to consider the matter of delay in completion of his contracts. The engineer reported that the damage would probably ho met by a reduction of £100 from the contractor's deposit. Vhis was agreed to. The Finance Committee reported that at the beginning of February the- -credit balance amounted to £3415 35, ; and . tho cash , receipts to £6235 11s Id, leaving a cash balance at the close of tho month of £903 7s lid. The chairman of the Finance Committee, Mr Hugo Friedlander, was authorised- to withr draw the sum of £4000 as required at call -with the Christchiirch City Council, and also to. remit to London by a single draft Ify mail leaving on the 3rd instant, the sum of £2574 12s, to meet tho contract payment for the dredge Canterbury's : boilers, due in London on April 9th, 1915,

The Harbour Improvement Committee, whilst regretting the statement made- by .Mr Little in Jiis letter of the 14th January, 1915, he having apologised, had no recommendation to make.

As no local tenders had been received for a now feed-water pump for the Canterbury, it was decided to accepr that of Messi-e Richnrdsor, I\lcCabe, of, England, of £144, c.i.f. Several, members: commented upon the fact of no local tenders having been received.
