BOROUGH COUNCILS.
SPREYDON. The Spreydon Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr G. It. Whiting), and Crs. E. H. Clark, W. H. Winsor, A. Manhire, E. Hayes, D. Sykes, T. Woods, S. A. Hancock, and G. H. Itudd. The Finance Committee reported:— Receipts since last meeting, £390 2s 10d; debit balance, district fund account. £1007 4s 3d; credit balance, loan account, £3 7s 4d; debit balance, shingle pit account, £09 3s 10d. The committee recommended that a meeting of the Spreydon Patriotic Committee be called for Wednesday. March 10th, for tho purpose of assisting the. Central Committee of the Belgian Relief Fund and their gala on April 10th. It had been resolved to take legal action _at once in regard to -the old outstanding rates. Tho report was adopted. Accounts amounting to £204 4s were passed for payment. It was resolved that the Council should call a* meeting to -work in conjunction with the Patriotic Committee. The Works Committee recommended that delegates be appointed from the Council to attend a conference regarding stock traffic in and around suburban boroughs. Following on the deputation received from the Spreydon Burgesses' Association, the Committee had visited the streets named, and after inspection of Edinburgh street were unable to find boulders as brought by tho deputation. It was rocommeTidod that the incoming Council be urged to have 20 chains at the top end of'TCdinburgli street metalled after March 31st. * The I'PDort was adopted. The Mayor and Cr. Sykes. were appointed delegates to the conference. . A letter was received complainingof the state of Simpson's lane, to which nothing had been done for several years. The complaint was referred to the Works Committee with power to act. It wfls resolved 'to request tho Works Committee to go into the qtiestion of providing adequate lighting for the borough during the winter.
