ESTATE OF C. G. MOORE

A meeting of creditors in the estato of Charles Gifford Moore was hold yesterday at the Official Assignee's Office. Mr Hunt appeared for bankrupt, and Mr Wright for Mr Holdsworth, the principal creditor.

Bankrupt assessed his liabilities to .secured creditors at £1250, the- estimated valuo of the securities being £2300. His liabilities to unsecured creditors ho estimated at £1158 12s Gd, which after deducting the estimated surotus over securities, £'10-50, left iv deficiency of £108 12s 6d. The secured creditors were:— J. 0. Amycs £300, jind G. 13. Ritchie £450. The principal unsecured creditor .was R. B. Holdsworth., with a claim of £1200, and of thirty other unsecured creditors those with claims of £10 and over were: —F. Kibblowhito £10, 11. J. Suckling £2-3., P. and D. Duncan £10, A. "\V. Scarr £21. Th: O'Brien £10 10s, Chinnall and Stewart £U, D.I.C £25, and Baruett Glass Rubber Co. £20.

Tho Assignee stated that when the securities were boiled down, there would be no surplus from them after tho secured creditors had been paid off.

Mr Ritchie stated that about £3-30 would cover his claim.

The Official Assignee road a statement by bankrupt as follows: —"My present position is due to the action of Mr Holdsworth, who obtained judgment against mc, and others in tho Supreme Court at Christ-church in November last for tho sum of £1186 9s, and subsequently obtained an order adjudging mo a bankrupt. My other debts were incurred when tho wining and other companies in which I was interested were in a flourishing condition, and future prospects good. These raining; ventures did not realise expectations, and thn companies are practically all in liquidation. I am at present earning my living as a taxi-cab driver, nnd my wages for the past six months have not averaged £3 per week. I havo an invalid wifo and four children dependent upon mc, ono of whom is earning the sum of 1.5s per week. I havo endeavoured to realise ray securities at a satisfactory figure, but up to the present I have been unable- to do 60. 1 have no future- expectations, and I a-m unablo to uiako any offer to the creditors. , ' . *■

Examined by Mr. Wright, bankrupt saiil he had kept no books. Ho hsid received about £350 from Mr G. B. Ritchie in various sums. This was paid at various times into his account at the bank. Ho could not tell when ho received tho last payment from Mr Ritchie. Out of tho 6a,le of Golden Bar shares ho had received £747 10s in 1912, which ho hnd used in household oxpenses. Ho had a motor-car burnt about eight or nine months ago. It was insured for £250, but the insurance company only paid out £170. He did not remomber what lie had cot for selling Golden Ridge shares. Of tho amount received by him he had put £250 into Golden Bar debentures, mid tho balance was used from time to time in household and general living expenses. Ho could not tell approximately what; he got from tho Golden Eidgo Company above tho £250. Tho motor-car ho had now was under a bailment. Ho paid £200 for the car, and £40 had heen paid off it. His wife ownod the car, and also tho furniture. He pot the car for £130, and the car and furniture were mortgaged together for £200. His wife had no property of any other kind. Somo money that ho had received for selling other mining shares went to nay back debts. r In reply to Mr Hunt, bankrupt said t&at for threo or four years lie had earned his livelihood selling shares. Mr Holdsworth moved that the matter be left in the hands of the Assignee to investigate, and to report if he thought fit to a future meeting. , The motion was carried.
