Various rocommenda- ] tions affecting membership and the constitution of the"Wesley Guild were carried. Tho recommendatious of the committed on alterations and the px'W book of Inws governing Sunday schools, were reviewed and dealt with. EXTENSION OF ITINERANCY. Conference considered " the question of the extension of the term of itinerancy upon a motion introduced hy the Rev. (j. H. Ivavrs, providing that in special cases Conference could appoint a minister for longer than the five rears' limit.

"Mr Laws moved: (1) That Conference confirm 'the provisions adopted by the Conference of 191<l, permitting of extended appointments of ministers to circuits beyond five years in special cases; (2) that the majority of votes required to carry such appointments in the Conference be reduced to 53 per cent. ■ .

Speaking to his motion, Mr Laws said he believed the suggestions to bo in the best interests or the church. The annual invitation would stand as before, and tho interests of the circuits were safeguarded • From every pointoosf s view. Mr ' Lmws emphasised tho question of personal, influence of. ministers in the circuits, especially in tho home and amongst the vouuk people. This interest irais cumulative. 'Ministers *>f a- few" years .standing were giren confidences that -weriv not pliiced in new. uiinfilters. 'Ec Icuca - that t£c

'question T\ - as agitating the minds of tho younger ministers, and he had recoired many letters whicli showed how they werei being disturbed by the pre-; sent conditions.. He drew attention to ; the posjtion in ivhich thoir ihinistofs stood in relation to the _ Uniyorsity Senate and councils. They could not; he long enough in any place *to secure il seat on these- bodies. The church was losing in making its . ministers •'moYo on." By" this- proposal ' the itinerancy 'was not imperilledj but vatlier it would be strengthened at its. weakest and most vulnerable point. He drew attention to .the safeguards provided by quarterly meetings and by Cpnforence, which could bo trusted to protect the 1 church's "welfare. In-Eng-Jand, in the Primitive Methodist Church, where the.system he was advocating prevailed, it was tho experience that the average stay of lninifiters in their circuits was-.'five-, years. ■ ..Mr J: A; Fleshier seconded the motion. - ■ ..•"■:' • ' Tim Hevs. J. Hnslam.- G-. Knowles Smith, J. Cocker. E. ■■ P.-.-'. Blnmires,' Mpssr.? W. Harding, and J. A. Flesher supported the proposals. ' The Pier. A. Ashcroft moved :as an amendment that the> resolutions be~ referred to the" circuit qudi-terly ineetinj;.?, synods, and next conference. The Jtev. D. J. Mnrvay. seconded the amendment. l

The Revs: O. H. Garlnnd oiid W. Ba-.imljor spoke in favour of the aniencfinent; The v principal olijection raised was that the quarterly meetings had not been consulted. -'■ '
